New GP services for Pimlico

doctor.jpgWestminster Primary Care Trust has announced plans for extra GP services in Pimlico.

The new family doctor services will be open for everyone who lives, works or visits Westminster from 8am-8pm, seven days a week.

The new GP services will be in addition to existing GP services and no new changes are planned to the current arrangements.

A survey of patients last year showed there was demand for longer and more convenient opening hours at GP practices.

The PCT has now drawn up proposals and want to find out more about what local people think about the plans and hear views on the range of services residents want there.

Westminster PCT Chief Executive Michael Scott said: "We are now moving into an exciting new phase of investing and improving health services in Westminster.

"We want local residents to shape their own health services to meet local needs. We are keen for everyone to get involved and have a say in our plans.

"These plans will create extra services to make sure people living and working in Westminster can see a doctor and nurse quickly at a convenient time.

"Under these arrangements patients can book an appointment or just turn up and do not have to face long and sometimes worrying waits."

Westminster PCT will be asking organisations, including existing GP practices, the voluntary sector or private providers, to submit plans if they are interested in supplying these services.

A decision on the best proposal will be made by April 2009 and a Westminster City Councillor and resident will be involved in the selection process.

The new GP services should be set up and running by late 2009.

The sites could include additional health facilities such as counselling, baby or asthma clinics depending on what people want.

Patients will still be able to see their own GP as normal but just use these extra services when it best suits their needs.

To give your views, fill in a questionnaire at www.westminster-pct.nhs.yk/newgpservices.htm or you can request a printed questionnaire by calling 0800 587 8818.

Drop in events will also be held on Monday, September 22 from 6pm-8pm at The Abbey Centre, 34 Great Smith Street, Pimlico, and on Monday, October 20 from 11am-2pm at Churchill Hall, Churchill Gardens Estate, SW1V 3AL.
