Victoria tube worker assaulted
A man who spat at a Victoria tube worker has lost his appeal against conviction.
Byron DeCosta Bovell, 33, was ordered to carry out 180 hours of community service, pay £75 compensation and £194 costs and serve a three month suspended jail sentence for spitting at a member of staff in Victoria tube station.
Bovell started shouting at a customer services assistant when told he didn't have enough cash on his Oyster card to carry out the journey, at around 1.30pm on September 15 last year.
Bovell spat at the assistant before running off.
British Transport Police officers arrested Bovell and collected his spit, using DNA analysis to later prove his guilt.
He was arrested and charged with common assault, and found guilty at Ctiy of Westminster Magistrates' Court in June this year.
Bovell, of Coburg Crescent, Tulse Hill, appealed against his conviction and sentence at Southwark Crown Court on October 2, but both appeals were dismissed.
Aidan Harris, Manager of London Underground's Workplace Violence Unit, said: "Spitting is disgusting and any attack, verbal or physical, on our staff is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
"This case should serve as a warning to anyone out there willing to attack a member of our staff who is just doing their job.
"Working closely with the police we will do our utmost to bring offenders to justice as swiftly as possible.
"The LU Workplace Violence Unit is one of a number of measures TfL and the BTP have implemented, alongside increased CCTV coverage across the Tube, to ensure that our staff and passengers see that resources are being made available to help create a safe, secure and supportive environment."
