GPs increase opening hours

doctor.jpgMore than half of GP practices in Westminster are now offering patients longer opening times.

NHS Westminster announced this week that 28 of the 52 practices have signed up to offer extra hours for patients meeting the Department of Health target before the 1 December deadline.

Carbon monoxide poisons diners

Six diners may have narrowly escaped death following an outbreak of toxic carbon monoxide at a Victoria restaurant.

Sue and Richard Faithfull were dining with two friends at Brazilian restaurant Preto, in Wilton Road, when the deadly gas filled the room from a faulty extractor fan.

Lotto jackpot prize unclaimed

A Lotto jackpot prize of more than £500,000 has yet to be claimed in Westminster.

The search is on to find the owner of the winning ticket, bought in Westminster, who matched all six numbers of the draw on November 5.

Diners at a Victoria restaurant were taken to hospital suffering carbon monoxide poisoning on Friday.

Brazilian restaurant Preto, in Wilton Road, was closed as ambulances took to hospital those affected by a leak, believed to have come from faulty kitchen equipment.

doctor.jpgPlans are underway to cut the huge life expectancy gap within Westminster - one of the biggest in the country.

Westminster PCT's director of public health Dr Margaret Guy presented the latest health annual report revealing the great contrasts in life expectancy between the more affluent and the poorer areas of the borough.

Pimlico hostel picks up awards

A Pimlico hostel has won two awards for its work with former rough sleepers.

King George's hostel, in Great Peter Street, won both the award for 'Excellence in meeting the needs of vulnerable people' and the award for 'outstanding achievement in housing in England', at the UK Housing Awards.

A winter wonderland is coming to Hyde Park, near Hyde Park Corner, from Saturday.

Santa and his elves will be visiting the bandstand, and there will also be a traditional German market, fairground rides and ice skating.

On Monday, children from St Vincent de Paul RC School, in Morpeth Terrace, performed a musical they had written about the life of Walter Tull at Methodist Central Hall, in Storey's Gate, Victoria.

Fit Squad visit Lisson Green

fit-squad.jpgHealthy living was the lesson of the day at a Lisson Grove play centre.

Around 60 children took part in a range of activities organised by Westminster Council's Fit Squad team at the Lisson Green Play Centre, in Capland Street, on Thursday.

'Smoothie Bike' uses power generated through pedalling to operate a blender attached to the bike's handle bars to create fruit smoothies and juices.
