Motorbike demonstration planned
Demonstrators are expected to meet in Westminster to protest against motorbike parking charges introduced in the borough.
A group of bikers from No to Bike Parking Fees campaign, and other organisations, is due to meet in Trafalgar Square at 6.15pm on Monday, May 11.
They are campaigning against a trial motorbike parking charge, introduced by Westminster Council in August last year, of £1.50 per day or £150 for an annual permit.
For more information about the council's motorbike charging policy, see www.westminster.gov.uk/transportandstreets/parking/wheretopark/vehicletype/motorcycle/policy.cfm
We'd like to hear from you. Send your stories, pics and videos

A group???? There were four thousand bikers turned out for the last event and this one will be even bigger. Avoid the West End that evening if you're driving because nothing will be moving!!
Agree with the above comment, this demo is going to massive, Westminster are trying so many "dirty tricks" to stop it but are failing. The demonstration has the full backing of the Metropolitan Police, we have been nothing but a very very large group of well-behaved citizens demonstrating our right to protest, yet all along Westminster have tried to hush us up.
It will not work. The only way is to SCRAP THE TAX! Simple.
See you on the 11th May 2009! And if they are still not listening we will continue to hold various other protests until they do listen to the continually growing opposition.
DIRTY TRICKS: http://nutsville.com/?p=311
This demo will bring complete MISERY and CHAOS to Westminster... so if you are not on a bicycle/scooter/motorbike/foot or on the tube, STAY AWAY from Westminster otherwise you will not be moving at all until well after 10pm. And if you want this demo to be called off, then write to Cllr Danny Chalkley asking him to SCRAP THE BIKE PARKING TAX, otherwise not only there will be a demo on Monday 11th May but many more to come bringing Westminster to a complete standstill, bringing massive chaos and misery.
£1.50 per day westminster council will tell you is reasonable etc etc...
the truth is £1.50 is a 150% increase!
disgusting absolutely disgusting....
Axe the Bike Parking Tax....
Westminster council thought bikers would be an easy way to top up their bank accounts, how wrong they were!
As an environmentally friendly way of travelling around London, bikers should be encouraged not penalised with a new parking tax
Sorry for any inconvenience caused, but Westminster will not listen to reason and so need to be hit where it hurts, directly to their voters, maybe then they will listen and bin this unfair tax
LOLZ this will be fun but not for the rest of London......
Why do the City of Westminster NOT support the use of motorcycles / scooters and reduce the number of cars on the road. The space motorcycles/scooters take to park is more efficient and there is no justification in levying a tax. I know they claim that they are supplying better security but it is not upto industry standards and is not widely available. I have never in over 50 years attended any form of demostration but this unfair, unjust and an indefensible tax. It is wrong on so many levels. I will be there on the 11th May 2009. The City of Westminster has no interest in anything other than raising MONEY.

We are protesting against this tax because it is clearly just a begining before other councils in London and elsewhere demand the same to bikers. If you start a day with work in Westminster, afternoon in Chelsea and in Ealing .. will you be ready to pay x3 taxes ? When in fact you facilitate the congestion !??
Unfair !
Not a group. we are very organized group "army" that will keep coming until the council stop avoiding us and listen. see you all tonight.
