Screening of Passport 2 Pimlico
The final version of a film made by Pimlico residents is to be screened tonight.
Hundreds of Churchill Gardens Estate residents, both young and older, made their own version of wartime comedy film Passport to Pimlico, entitled Passport 2 Pimlico.
Since October 2008, they have re-imagined scenes from the classic 1949 film according to their own experiences of the Second World War and their aspirations for Pimlico.
Scenes were performed across Pimlico, with the help of charity Groundwork and arts organisation AKarts.
The piece offers an insight into what happens when a community comes together.
Regular cast characters will be on hand to sign autographs, including Pimlico's prime minister Arf O'Westminster; Queen Queenie I, Queen of Pimlico; and Doctor Professor Dame Burley Shassey.
AKarts is a participatory arts organisation fronted by artist Alexis K Johnson and filmmaker James Johnson.
James Johnson, director of the project, said: "It's been a joy to work with such a host of wonderful people and get them connecting with the spaces that have inherent meaning to them.
"I can't wait to see our characters dressed up in the Tate."
The film screens tonight (Friday) at the Tate Britain, in Millbank, from 7.30pm.
