A budding Pimlico reporter learned the tricks of the trade when she was chosen to join a summer school for journalists.

Camille St-Omer, a pupil at Grey Coat Hospital CofE School, in Greycoat Place, joined the Young Journalists' Academy along with 24 other pupils.

The 17-year-old was given the a chance to see behind the scenes at Sunday newspaper News of the World and agency Reuters, experiencing everything from celebrity splashes to hard-hitting financial news pieces.

This year's summer school also included sessions run by high-profile media figures including The Times sports writer Matthew Syed and award-winning BBC World Service broadcast journalist Richard Lawson.

Camille said: "The fact that all our guest speakers seem to have a passion for their work has helped inflict the same passion into all of us students here at YJA.

"The YJA has helped many of us to make connections and contacts with many in or involved with journalism, which will hopefully prove useful for experience and future job opportunities."

The sessions, financed by City of London Corporation, were run by not-for-profit organisation Journalism Education.
