Performances celebrate abolition of slave trade

Posted by Juliet Eysenck on Oct 8, 09 09:00 AM in What's On

Performances of a play celebrating the lives and work of those who campaigned to abolish the slave trade will be held this weekend.

Passage to Freedom, by Andrew Ashmore and Associates, will take place by the Buxton Memorial, in Victoria Tower Gardens, next to the Houses of Parliament.

The one-hour shows start at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, on both Saturday and Sunday.

No booking is required.

Adam Farrar, head of events for the Royal Parks, said: "Passage to Freedom is a living history performance that brings to life the hardships faced by the slaves and the dedication of all those who campaigned to free them.

"The Royal Parks commissioned this production specifically for Victoria Tower Gardens, the site of the Buxton Memorial, which commemorates pro-abolition campaigners."
