Serious sexual assault in Victoria

Posted by Juliet Eysenck on Nov 4, 09 09:12 AM in News

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted outside Victoria station.

The 22-year-old woman was followed across the station by a man, who kept trying to talk to her, at around 5.10pm on October 9.

Despite her telling the man to leave her alone, he forced himself on her, touching her indecently.

The attack occurred in the forecourt area to the right of the main entrance arch, by the back of the Iron Duke pub.

The attacker immediately fled the scene, and the woman returned to the station to report what had happened.

Detective Constable Andy Parkinson, investigating officer for the British Transport Police, said: "We are working to establish the exact circumstances of what happened outside the station and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that may help our investigation to come forward and contact police.

"Victoria is a very busy place, especially at this time of the day, so there would have been plenty of people about who will have seen something.

"I am especially keen to speak to a female passenger who the victim reported the matter to as she re-entered the station.

"She is believed to have been catching a train on platform 2 heading toward the Medway, Dover and Ramsgate areas."

Anyone who has any information about the incident can contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 405040, quoting incident number 429 of 9/10/09, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

* A 37-year-old man was arrested on Thursday 15 October on suspicion of sexual assault and has been bailed until late December.
