Benefit cheats caught out

Posted by Juliet Eysenck on Feb 9, 10 11:59 AM in News in brief

Almost £70,000 was recovered from housing benefit cheats in November and December last year by Westminster Council.

During this period, 12 penalties and cautions were handed out totalling more than £26,000 which the council is set to recover from claimants.

One caution for disabled badge misuse was also issued, and 10 badges were recovered.

Cllr Tim Mitchell said: "Benefit cheats take money intended for the most vulnerable in our society and it is inexcusable to try and cheat the system."
