Lisson Grove cannabis factory uncovered

Posted by Juliet Eysenck on Feb 8, 10 09:58 AM in News

More than 100 cannabis plants were discovered by police when they raided a house in Lisson Grove.

The haul was seized at a house in Harewood Avenue, which had been converted into a drug-growing factory.

The basement of the house was used to grow dozens of mature cannabis plants, with fans and humidifiers.

Several other rooms in the house contained equipment used to grow the plants, and on the top floor, an area had been set aside for growing seedlings.

Officers from the Bryanston and Dorset Square Safer Neighbourhood Team discovered evidence that parts of the house had undergone structural alterations to produce the right environment for growing the plants.

An electrical engineer realised that the electricity meter had also been overridden and the people responsible for the factory were taking electricity directly from the mains.

Officers raided the house following reports from neighbours that large amounts of the class B drug were being grown there.

The house was privately owned, but officers believe it had been rented out.

There did not appear to be anyone living at the property, which had been boarded up.

Sergeant Al Cowen said: "This house had been modified for the whole purpose of growing large quantities of cannabis.

"It's thanks to reports from the local community that we were made aware of this and have been able to go in and shut the factory down."

Police confirmed that no arrests had been made but their investigations are ongoing.
