Jonathan Lamboi and Gibril KallonTwo students from a Victoria school have been recognised for their work in tackling bullies.

Gibril Kallon and Jonathan Lamboi, both 18, were commended for their dedication in working as peer mentors at Westminster City School, in Palace Street.

The year 13 pupils offered support to younger students during after school sessions and reinforced the message that bullying in the school and local community in unacceptable.

They were both presented with Diana Awards, set up by the Diana Memorial Committee, which recognises individuals aged five to 18 who have tackled bullying in their communities and schools.

The commendation is given to just 1,000 exceptional young people each year and winners officially collect their award at a national event in June.

Gibril said: "Everybody knows that bullying is wrong but it still happens.

"We are all different from each other and that's something we should celebrate, not use as a way of picking on people.

Jonathan added: "It's great to get this award and I'm really proud to be representing our school to prevent bullying."

The boys will now work as anti-bullying ambassadors for the school.

Headteacher David Maloney praised the pair, saying: "They are excellent role models for the other pupils and deserve to be richly congratulated for all of their hard work and determination."
