Gnawed packs of spaghetti at One NationA Queen's Park shop owner is facing a hefty fine after a rodent infestation left food covered in mouse hair and urine.

Packs of noodles and pasta at One Nation Food and Wine, in Kilburn Lane, also appeared to have been gnawed at when inspectors visited in July last year.

Town halls should be allowed to compete with private, voluntary and not-for-profit organisations to provide services to local people, a leading council official has said.

Doctor warns of obesity epidemic

Almost a quarter of Westminster's 11-year-olds are obese and that number is set to increase unless action is taken, a leading doctor has warned.

In Westminster, 24 per cent of year six pupils are classified as obese and 16 per cent as overweight, according to the latest figures.

Unusual smell "not a gas leak"

A gas leak has been ruled out as the cause of an unusual smell which forced the closure of Victoria station yesterday.

Firefighters carried out tests at the underground station, which established there were no hazardous substances present.

Victoria tube station was closed earlier this afternoon following reports of an unusual smell.

Four people who felt unwell were treated by ambulance crews at the scene, while another four complained of headaches and nausea.

PE teacher to represent England

Scott RiderA Marylebone PE teacher is set to represent England at the Commonwealth Games in India.

Scott Rider, 30, who works at Portland Place School, has flown off to take part in the shot put event at the Games, which are due to start in Delhi on Sunday.

VICTORIA: Volunteers are needed to help in a charity Christmas card appeal.

The Blue Peter Go Cardz appeal, which launched on children's television show Blue Peter, is asking young people to design cards which will go on sale in selected Tesco stores from November 15.
