Pimlico's Chip Nazmi, 38, who joined the 13-strong all male group three years ago, cannot wait for their next step, competing in the EuroGames this July.

Road closures for royal wedding

WESTMINSTER: More than 80 roads are expected to be closed by police in Westminster today to boost security for the royal wedding.

Westminster Council has announced that resident permit holders in these areas will be able to park their cars in neighbouring parking zones, in either residents' or pay and display bays, until the start of controlled hours on May 3.

Floating classroom in Little VeniceHundreds of boats will descend on Little Venice as part of the Canalway Cavalcade this weekend.

The annual spectacle, to be held on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, features working and traditional boats in procession, trade shows, bands, kids' activities, a real ale bar and plenty more to enjoy.

A little-known lane which links the West End to the River Thames has been revamped with a £650,000 makeover.

New lighting, paving and signposts have been installed in Carting Lane, which is also home to the only remaining sewer-powered street lamp in the City of Westminster.

The street runs down the side of the Savoy Hotel, finishing at the listed Victoria Embankment gardens, giving pedestrians a direct route from The Strand to the embankment.

police-standing.jpgA street cleaner who was arrested on suspicion of plotting to kill the Pope during his visit last year has revealed he is still "traumatised" by his ordeal.

The 26-year-old Algerian man was one of five men arrested as they prepared to start their shift at a street cleaning depot in Chiltern Street, Marylebone, ahead of the Pope's visit to London in September last year.

Church Street Library is one of just five across the UK to have been chosen to take part in a ground breaking reading and writing competition led by young people.

On July 27, the library will host a programme of fun, creative events, workshops, exhibitions and performances focused around literature.

Free Christian Science talk

A talk on the healing powers of Christian Science is being held at the Cumberland Hotel in Great Cumberland Place on Monday May 9.

John Adams, a full time prayer-based healer from New York will present the talk, entitled 'Does Christian Science really heal sickness and sin?' at 7.30pm.

VICTORIA: A workshop aimed at helping people with epilepsy boost overcome problems with their memory will be held at Westminster City Hall, in Victoria Street, from 10am to 4pm on May 7.

Gus Baker, professor of clinical neuropsychology at Liverpool University, will be speaking at the event, which is organised by leading organisation Epilepsy Action.

People should volunteer in the community in exchange for 'care credits' which would see them supported in later later, according to a report commissioned by Westminster Council.

Under the 'care and support' insurance scheme, people in their 40s and 50s should carry out activities that are beneficial to their community to generate 'credits' which could then be 'cashed in' for future local authority care.
