Pimlico pub is best in west London
A Pimlico landlord raised a glass to toast his pub's success after scooping a prestigious award.
The Cask Pub and Kitchen, in Charlwood Street, has just been named the best pub in west London by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
Owner Martin Hayes, who opened the pub just 20 months ago, said he was delighted by the recognition.
"Across London and the UK we're unique because we have one of the largest selections of beers, around 500 different types," he said.
"We have 10 real ales which change on a daily basis, sourced from only the country's best micro-breweries.
"We have a selection of 14 keg beers and at least nine beers which you will not find on tap anywhere else in the UK.
"This shows that people are really beginning to appreciate good beer."
He added that the pub held regular 'meet the brewer' sessions, where customers are given the chance to try out different beers and find out how each brewery was set up.
The pub was also recently named 'pub of the year 2011' by The Publican magazine.
Mr Hayes added: "Less than two years ago, we started on this journey and to win the awards is beyond our wildest dreams.
"We had a simple idea, try and source the best beers from around the UK and the world and put them in a friendly environment where everyone is welcome.
"We want to introduce more and more people to the wonders of good beer.
"We are so lucky to live in this golden age with so many talented brewers and breweries turning out such good beers, we just showcase their talents."
Mr Hayes is planning to open a second pub, called The Craft Beer Company, in Farringdon, at the end of June.
Second place in the CAMRA competition was the White Horse pub in Parsons Green, and the Edgar Wallace pub in Westminster came third.
