Christmas lights will be switched on across the borough as the festive season gets underway.

Here's our guide of Christmas events in and around Westminster.

* Supermodel Elle Macpherson will turn on the Christmas tree lights at the junction of Moreton Terrace and Lupus Street, in Pimlico, at 6pm tonight.

Pupils from Pimlico Academy and members of the South Westminster Community Choir will sing carols, while shops in the area will stay open until 8pm for shoppers to pick up Christmas gifts.

* Westminster mayor Councillor Susie Burbridge will be joined Stian Berger Rosland, the governing mayor of Oslo, and Kim Traavik, the Norwegian ambassador, to turn on the Christmas tree lights in Trafalgar Square this evening.

The event starts at 6pm, with singing from the St Martin in the Fields choir and the Salvation Army.

* Queen of shops Mary Portas will switch on the Christmas lights at the junction of Randolph Avenue and Elgin Avenue, Maida Vale, tonight at 5pm.

* Queen's Park is set to be brightened up when the Christmas lights are switched on December 2 at 4pm.

The tree is located at the Halfpenny Steps green space next to the footbridge, near the junction of Harrow Road and Second Avenue.

* Christmas is coming early to Pimlico from 3.30pm on December 3, as the Christmas lights will be switched on at the junction of Tachbrook Market and Warwick Way.

* Maida Hill Market will get into the festive mood when the Christmas lights are switched on at 5pm on December 3.

* St John's Wood will get a bit of Christmas sparkle when lights on 26 columns in St John's Wood High Street, Circus Road and St John's Wood Terrace are switched on at 3.30pm on December 4.

Meet outside the RBS building at the junction of Harrow Road and Elgin Avenue.
