Makeover for Maida Vale Library

Posted by Emma Heseltine on Feb 3, 12 08:54 AM in News

Book worms in Westminster will benefit from a library makeover which will include new computers and a revamped self-service centre.

But it comes at a price as Maida Vale Library will be closed for six weeks from February 13 so its first refurbishment in eight years can take place.

Work will also include essential repairs, such as new guttering, painting and flooring, as well as tackling problems with damp.

Councillor Melvyn Caplan, head of customer services, said: Westminster Council is committed to improving our libraries and making them available to all.

"The re-opened library will see improvements such as additional computers, a dedicated laptop counter and a larger area for children."

Customers will be given extended times to return books during the closure, and can take them back to any of the borough's libraries.

A new lift will also be installed later in the year, bringing the total project cost to £150,000.
