Redevelopment plans for Paddington
Paddington is enjoying a 'renaissance as a major commercial site' according to Crossrail, which has just submitted redevelopment plans for the land around its new station.

The site, at the junction of Bishop's Bridge Road and the Grand Union Canal, could see a 320,000sq ft development, with 15 storeys of office space above shops and a main entrance.
Plans have been sent in to Westminster Council, and also incorporate access to Crossrail, National Rail and Hammersmith and City line services at Paddington.
The streetscape in front of the new tube station would also be improved along to London Street, and a new lift and staircase would be put in place from the canal towpath up to Bishop's Bridge Road.
Ian Lindsay, Crossrail land and property director, said: "This major new commercial development will play an important role in the continued transformation of Paddington.
"It will signal the completion of a further phase in the renaissance of Paddington as a major commercial location."
As part of the wider Crossrail works, a new taxi rank has already opened, and is linked to the mainline station by lifts and escalators.
The new Hammersmith and City line station, due to be completed in early 2014, will improve pedestrian access from the canal towpath to both the tube and National Rail stations.
Kay Buxton, chief executive of Paddington Waterside Partnership, said: "Paddington is one of the fastest growing business and residential areas in the capital.
"Crossrail will deliver improved and direct transport connections with areas to the west and east of the capital, as well as with London's other major employment centres.
"This development not only enhances Paddington's position as an important business location, it also delivers new connectivity with the Paddington area by providing improved pedestrian access to the Grand Union Canal through a spectacular waterside scheme."
When Crossrail opens in 2018, up to 24 trains an hour will operate at peak times between Paddington and Whitechapel.

golly ,its already like Hong Kong down there ! are you sure this is 'needed' or is it an exploitation ? doing some corporation yet another favour? . The canal is such a characterful and special part of London hasn't enough of it been taken away already .These looming developments do affect the surrounding locales too,Maida Vale ,Bayswater ,Queens Park
buffeted by the additional infrastructure - it is more residential
building that should really be prioritised.
