HRH The Duke of Cambridge has helped launch a new campaign for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity by starring in a specially made film.

Prince William is supporting the fundraising campaign 'ten10-a decade of innovation at The Royal Marsden'.

Over the last 10 years, the charity raised over £100 million for The Royal Marsden to fund groundbreaking developments in cancer research, diagnosis, treatment and care. The aim is to raise another £100 million over the next decade to ensure this work can continue in curing more people and improving quality of life for all those affected by cancer.

The new year-long campaign is celebrating the last 10 years of innovation at The Royal Marsden as well as looking forward to the next 10 years of innovation and personalised medicine.

In the film The Duke says "I am extremely proud to be President of The Royal Marsden, an incredible hospital and a world-class cancer centre carrying out ground-breaking work influencing the treatment of cancer patients all over the UK.

"In 2013 The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity is celebrating a decade of innovation, looking back at 10 years of pioneering developments they have funded, and looking forward to the next 10 years of innovation and personalised treatment. The charity needs to raise £100 million if they are to make this a reality.

"This year please help The Royal Marsden to continue their amazing work as a centre of innovation and help make a difference for people with cancer everywhere."

Following in the footsteps of his mother Diana, Princess of Wales, The Duke became President of The Royal Marsden in 2007 and has a longstanding relationship with the hospital including work experience on the Chelsea and Sutton sites in 2005.

Cally Palmer, Chief Executive of The Royal Marsden, said: "The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity plays a vital role in ensuring The Royal Marsden stays at the forefront of cancer research, diagnosis, treatment and care and we are extremely fortunate to have a President who is so involved and interested in everything we do from the latest technology to the care and wellbeing of patients and their families."

Examples of projects at the hospital funded by The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity include the Oak Centre for Children and Young People, which was opened by TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011.
