Shocking figures released by London Ambulance Service show that Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster are among the worst boroughs in London for underage drinking.

In both boroughs, 4 per cent of all call outs to under 18s were due to excess alcohol, some of them to children as young as 10.

In Kensington and Chelsea over the past year, paramedics have been called to 60 incidents of underage drinking, five of them for children under 10, while in neighbouring Westminster, the number is almost doubled - 133 call outs, with eight of them to under 10s.

London-wide, London Ambulance Service has dealt with 2,286 underage drinkers who need hospital care.

Prize winning sculptor Shelley Wilson will be hosting her 'Body Politic' exhibition at Westminster Reference Library, to coincide with the return of parliament after its summer break.

More than a million journeys have now been taken on Barclays Cycle Hire bikes in just 10 weeks since their launch.

The scheme has seen 90,000 Londoners sign up as members, making around 20,000 journeys on the iconic blue bicycles every week day.

Operation Razorback success

The four-week police crackdown ahead of the Notting Hill Carnival has seen 101 arrests and the seizure of many weapons and drugs.

As visitors from around the world descend on West London to celebrate carnival, the Metropolitan Police has released the results of Operation Razorback, which launched at the start of August.

It targeted known troublemakers and gangs who were planning to use carnival as a venue for violence and crime, and through several dawn raids based on intelligence from residents, officers have seized £64,000 cash, and large quantities of crack cocaine and cannabis.

A wide range of weapons have also been seized by officers, including hunting knives, samurai swords and a firearm.

A four-week police crackdown launched on Monday (2) to tackle troublemakers at this year's Notting Hill Carnival.

The eyes of the world turn to West London over the August Bank Holiday weekend, and the Metropolitan Police is keen to start targeting known criminals well ahead of the carnival.

Operation Razorback will make use of carefully gathered intelligence to target known troublemakers and gangs who plan to use the carnival for violence and criminal activity, and to stop them getting anywhere near the event itself.

All entrances to the carnival site will have search points to prevent weapons being taken in, and officers will be specifically targeting pickpockets this year.

Green plan for Chelsea Barracks

Posted by Emma Heseltine on Jun 15, 10 11:01 AM in News

Controversial plans to redevelop the Chelsea Barracks site have been given a green makeover by a friend of Prince Charles.

The new plans, drawn up by landscape artist Kim Wilkie, are for 600 homes set around a 'market garden' which includes vegetable plots, beehives, orchards and a nuttery.

The team behind the latest £3 billion proposal includes Mr Wilkie, one of the Prince's favourite designers, and is a far cry from the Lord Rogers' steel towers design, which Charles was opposed to, and which has since been withdrawn.
