People who have made a difference to the Westminster community can be recognised for their achievements, through Westminster Council's annual neighbourhood leadership awards competition.

Nominations can be made in four categories - changing the lives of younger people, changing the lives of older people, helping people live a healthier life and making the community feel safer.

West End ward councillor dies

Tributes have been paid to a West End councillor who died on Tuesday night.

Ian Wilder spent the last 15 years as a councillor for Westminster Council's West End ward.

Overruning escalator repair work is causing a nightmare for some Pimlico residents.

The downward escalator at Pimlico tube station has been out of action for months, leaving passengers to climb down nearly 90 stairs to reach the platforms.

Improvements to Pimlico estate

Three Westminster estates including one in Pimlico are set to be improved to benefit thousands of residents.

Westminster Council has been awarded a grant of £2 million from the London Development Agency to commission estate renewal experts to develop masterplans for Tollgate Gardens Estate, in Maida Vale; Brunel Estate, in North Paddington; and the Ebury Bridge Estate, in Pimlico.

Bikers are due to hold a demonstration against parking charges introduced in Westminster.

At 5.45pm on July 1, the motorbikers will meet at Golden Square in Soho, to protest against daily charges of £1 introduced by Westminster Council.

A Pimlico housing officer was celebrating after winning a national Housing Hero award.

Rodney Pedroza, who works in CityWest Homes' Pimlico office, was highly commended in the career development star of the year award, organised by Inside Housing magazine and the Chartered Institute of Housing.

A branch of McDonald's in Leicester Square had its application to extend opening hours until 5am rejected.

The judgment, held at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, follows a three-day licensing appeal by the restaurant that had the original bid refused by both police in Westminster and the Council.
